Additional Thoughts on Ethics
Ethics are different for different people; a way of determining right and wrong. Morals are a specific beliefs or behaviors. Morals impact an individuals ethics. There are types of ethics including those considered normal by society and those assessed by scientific inquiry. Western ethics are influenced by virtue ethics; what kind of person one wants to be.
The first day of class we discuss "work ethics" which focus on items influenced by western ethics. Words reviewed are accountability, punctualily, honesty, good communicator, professional, neat, even tempered and many others.
We need to consider interactions with patients who may have alternate ethical considerations. We also need to consider our own ethics when others do not match.
